Hand System The hand is probably the most complex human body part to acquire in 3D. InSpeck’s Hand system is a specific configuration adapted to digitize the particular physical attributes of a hand. This intricate part of the human anatomy is best digitized by using multiple units configured to work together as a Multi Head system. A clear advantage provided by hese systems is that the acquisition time is reduced from a few minutes (single) to as little a second (Multi Head). The speed users get by combining multiple units together allows them to digitize a hand even though it’s difficult to keep a hand perfectly still. WHAT CONFIGURATION IS RIGHT FOR YOU? One of InSpeck’s digitizer’s great advantages is their configuration flexibility due to its Multi Head systems. Users can either use them in single or multiple camera configurations. SINGLE: One digitizer can effectively be used to capture one view of a hand. However, it quickly becomes difficult to get good results if a complete hand acquisition is needed, as the subject cannot keep his/her hand completely still during the time it takes to capture the many views required. MULTI: A multiple digitizer configuration consists of 2 or more 3D Capturor digitizers linked together. A single shot is needed to capture data and it is not necessary to have overlap between cameras because of the calibration process that is done before digitizing. There is also no need for registration and alignment due to previous calibration. Note: Calibration only needs to be done when configuration setup is changed. Users will appreciate the time saved using Multi Head configurations and the scalable aspect of InSpeck’s systems. If the user has budget issues, InSpeck offers a modular approach consisting of purchasing one digitizer at a time and scaling up afterwards. Another benefit for users is that not only can they use their digitizers together but also individually depending on their projects. SPECIFIC CONFIGURATION EXAMPLES Two views: Two digitizers is the ideal configuration to capture 85 to 90% (approx.) of the hand. It is the quickest and most affordable way to acquire the hand’s 3D geometry and texture. Thanks to the calibration target, the two views are already aligned together making the merging process a breeze. The EM software’s advanced mathematical algorithms will intelligently interpolate data that was not scanned following the natural shape of the hand leaving a seamless surface geometry. Acquisition time: Less than one (1) second. Three or more views: When different hand positions are required, a configuration with more than 2 digitizers can be beneficial. Acquisition time: Varies depending on the number of systems used. The digitizer type to be considered in the Hand system configuration is [Small Field]. The [Small Field] has the advantage to give the highest resolution of the hand. The digitized data of the hand can be used for anthropometrics measurement, the design of custom gloves and the creation of hand orthotics.
